Hove Park celebrates World Book Day

As part of our celebrations of books and reading Hove Park libraries ran events on both sites.

On Wednesday, 1st March Year 10 and 11 students took part in a ‘Book Buffet’ in Nevill library.  Whilst enjoying their lunch students chatted for 5 minutes about books they had read then moved on the next table where they then talked about the next genre. By the end of the session students had compared books that they had read on a number of different  topics including books that made you laugh, books that surprised you, books that were made into films, favourite books etc. Hopefully students went away with lots of recommendations.

On Thursday, 2nd March students in Years 7,8 and 9 attended our ‘An Audience With….’ event in Valley library. Five teachers, Ms O’Connell, Ms Satterley, Mr Handforth, Mr Paul and Ms Sorensen read extracts from books to the students. Books included The BFG by Roald Dahl, The Snooks by Harold Williams, The Power of Three by Diana Wynn Jones, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Students commented ‘It was great  just to sit and listen to the different stories, I really enjoyed it’.

Other activities included £1 WBD book token exchange,  Guess Who competitions, a Book in a Jar competition and a Reasons to Read challenge where students had to find as many reasons to read on posters dotted around Valley campus.
