The aim of the Hove Park School Mathematics course is to focus on understanding and helping our pupils to become secure and confident with their knowledge of maths.
We help our pupils learn how
- to develop the ability to solve problems through decision making and reasoning
- to understand the importance of mathematics in everyday life
- to develop practical understanding of the ways in which information is gathered and presented
- to be enthusiastic for learning through practical activity, exploration and discussion
We currently run the A-Level Maths, A-Level Further Maths, AS Maths, AS Further Maths and a one year course in Level 3 Certificate in Core Mathematics. We also run classes for student to retake their Maths GCSE in the sixth form.
KS4 GCSE Mathematics
Are set by ability in Years 10 and 11, with half termly assessments to ensure students are working to their full potential and are identifying areas of weakness, that can be addressed as soon as possible.
We will enter students for both the Higher and the Foundation tiers of the assessments, this will be determined by their Maths teacher closer to the examination entry time.
Current Year 11’s are following the EdExcel GCSE course, and will received a Lettered Graded Qualification (G-A*) whilst the year 10’s are following the EdExcel GCSE course and will receive a Numbered graded qualification (1-9, 9 being high).
Students are set by ability in Mathematics from part way through Year 7, throughout Year 8 and Year 9. All students follow the current National curriculum in Maths, with a key focus on calculator skills and problem solving. Each year follow termly iTunesU courses via their iPads that allow them to work independently, if they need to.
Requirements for all students in Maths:
Pen, pencil and ruler. Bringing the correct equipment to a lesson shows a desire to learn. Calculator (must have students name on it). Students must be able to practice using the calculator that is allowed in the exam. Fully charged iPad. The students will be signed up to their course and revision on iTunesU and will need to access the course, homeworks and revision material.Recommended calculator
